Gerald van Wyk is the Group Chief Executive Officer of AfroCentric Group, a JSE-listed, black-owned healthcare investment company focused on expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare across South Africa and the broader continent. Under his leadership, AfroCentric is advancing a strategy centred on digital transformation, value-based healthcare, and sustainable growth, with a strong emphasis on improving access, affordability, and health outcomes. Gerald has over 20 years of experience in the financial services and insurance industry and has held senior executive roles across leading organisations, including Santam, Discovery Insure, Hollard, and Mutual & Federal.

Gerald is an Executive Director of AfroCentric Group and previously served as CEO: Client Solutions at Santam, where he was responsible for managing the organisation’s direct-to-client value proposition across digital, telephony, and face-to-face distribution and servicing channels, as well as leading the overall Marketing function for the group. He also held the role of Executive Head: Strategic Business Development at Santam, where he was responsible for identifying and driving targeted growth opportunities across the Santam Group, including collaboration with Sanlam. His portfolio included ground up initiatives, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. Earlier in his career, Gerald served as Executive Head: Distribution Services at Discovery Insure and was one of the founding executives of Discovery Business Insurance.

He is a seasoned leader in strategy development and execution across financial services and healthcare, with strong capabilities in distribution, enterprise growth and strategic partnerships. Gerald has deep experience in identifying and scaling new business opportunities, building integrated client value propositions, and leading complex organisations through transformation, innovation, and sustainable expansion. 

Gerald has previously served as a non-executive director on the boards of Santam Group subsidiary companies, including Indwe Broker Holdings (Chairman) and Snyman van der Vyver, and as a non-executive director of Ayo Holdings Limited, an MTN Group subsidiary in alliance with Sanlam. He is a past President and former Executive Council member of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa.
