Dr Bojosi Olehile Stanley (Stan) Moloabi

Dr Stan Moloabi obtained his primary medical degree – MBChB – at the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) now known as Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU). He obtained a Diploma in Business Management from Damelin Management School and is a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IODSA).  

He completed a Certificate in Global Health Delivery through an online course offered by Harvard University. In 2019, he undertook a short study titled Leading in Health Systems: Integrating Effort, Improving Outcomes at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Dr Moloabi also completed the Oxford University Healthcare Leadership Programme in June 2023.  

In May 2024, the SMU Convocation recognised him with an Alumni Governance Leadership Award. The award honours and celebrates SMU alumni who are doing exceptional work in governance structures.  

He started his medical career as a general practitioner running a clinical private practice for 13 years. He joined the corporate sector in August 2005, starting his corporate career at a medical scheme administrator as a medical advisor. He was then appointed Senior Manager: Hospital Benefit Management, Senior Manager: Client Liaison for the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) account and served on the exco. In 2009 he joined GEMS as Executive of Healthcare Management where he also served as Acting Principal Officer for just over a year from mid-2013 to mid-2014. In mid-2015, he left GEMS to become Principal Officer of Medshield Medical Scheme, a position he held until May 2018.  

On 1 June 2018 he re-joined GEMS as Chief Operations Officer until 31 January 2020. On 1 February 2020 he took up his current position of Principal Officer of GEMS. He is also a board member of the Board of Healthcare Funders.
