Dr Graham Hukins, BSc, MBChB, M Prax Med, M Med (Community Health), DTM&H, DPH, DOH, MCom, is Extraordinary Associate Professor – Research Unit, North West University. He is well-recognised in the healthcare industry, with a multifaceted career that spans various pivotal roles over many years, as an investor, consultant, director, manager, lecturer and researcher.  

As an investor, he possesses a keen acumen for identifying promising opportunities and driving strategic investments that have yielded significant returns while advancing healthcare innovation. He was instrumental in forming one of the very first managed care companies in South Africa. He managed the Clothing Workers Union Medical Aid in the 1970s, which provided comprehensive healthcare to its members at a fraction of the cost of other medical aids at the time.  

In his role as a consultant, he has provided invaluable guidance to numerous organisations, offering strategic direction, operational efficiency improvements and innovative solutions to challenges within the healthcare landscape. His consultancy work has been instrumental in driving positive change and fostering growth in diverse healthcare enterprises. As a director and manager, his adeptness at aligning teams, optimising processes and fostering a culture of innovation has been instrumental in achieving operational excellence and driving sustainable growth. 

His passion for education is evident in his role as a lecturer, where he imparts his wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to the next generation of healthcare professionals, equipping those with whom he works with the tools they need to thrive in the dynamic healthcare landscape. As a researcher, he has contributed to the body of knowledge in healthcare, conducting research that has advanced our understanding of critical issues, including managed care, and informed evidence-based practices. 

Currently he is an honorary professor and continues to inspire and influence the healthcare community through his expertise, leadership and dedication to driving positive change.
