Jonty Roland 

Jonty Rowland is Associate Director of Aceso Global, a global advisory institution working across emerging market countries on healthcare delivery and financing. It advises on health system reform to governments, global institutions and private sector organisations. He has worked in more than 25 countries in areas including health system design, financing reforms and private sector engagement.  

He has worked extensively with governments on national health insurance (NHI), as well as hospital public-private partnerships, primary care delivery reforms and numerous payment model reform projects. He has also worked for major corporate payers, providers and suppliers to help them deliver health for all.  

His recent projects include advising Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance Agency, including on the creation of a private sector contracting framework, and developing the NHI roadmap for two Caribbean states. He leads several initiatives of the Joint Learning Network (JLN), a global project that engages countries, including South Africa, in jointly diagnosing and identifying solutions to healthcare challenges (population targeting, private sector engagement and PHC performance management). Each JLN initiative involves roughly 30 officials from ministries of health across 12 countries.  

He is the author of more than 35 health policy publications, including several award-winning reports, on areas including implementation challenges of NHI, payment model redesign, the politics of health reforms and public-private partnerships.  

He trained at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and has an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He holds visiting fellowships at the Center for Global Development, Nuffield Trust and Imperial College London Institute of Global Health Innovation.
