Thulani Mkhungo  

Thulani Mkhungo is Chief Risk Officer (CRO) at the Special Investigating Unit (SA). He is a seasoned CRO with 22 years of experience in risk management, corporate governance and compliance at executive level. He has been a member of the Executive Committee at the Special Investigating Unit for over nine years.  

His role involves strategic planning, policy development and embedding risk appetite and tolerance across the organisation. He manages enterprise risk assessments, facilitates governance training and drives the implementation of fraud prevention and anti-corruption initiatives inside and outside his organisation through the Sector Vulnerability Risk Management programme 4 of the National Priority Crime Operational Committee (formerly known as Anti-Corruption Task Team), whereby sectors vulnerable to corruption were identified and prioritised through corruption risk assessment. This led to the establishment of the Health Sector Anti-Corruption Forum, which was followed by the establishment of the Infrastructure Build Anti-corruption Forum and Local Government Anti-corruption Forum.
