Dr Nono Ledwaba-Mweli serves as the Medical Director of Universal Healthcare, where she provides clinical oversight, guides financial performance and drives strategic initiatives across a range of healthcare schemes. Since joining in 2022, her focus has been on regulatory compliance, clinical risk management and cost-savings for clients.  

Her career began in the South African public health sector, where she gained invaluable public sector healthcare experience at Helen Joseph Hospital, Natalspruit Hospital, Sebokeng Hospital and Johannesburg Hospital (2001-2005).  

Drawing on her extensive experience in managed care, she previously served as General Manager: Strategic Managed Care at Universal Healthcare. Her earlier roles include that of Senior Manager: Clinical Advisor at SANLAM/CAMAF, and positions at Medscheme and Alexander Forbes Health, where she focused on provider relations and medical advisory services.  

Her academic credentials include an MSc in Health Economics from the University of South Wales, a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Medicine and Health from the University of Pretoria, and an MBChB from MEDUNSA (now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University).
