Governance Workshop

The Governance Workshop was a full-day, interactive session tailored for trustees, principal officers, CEOs, fund managers, and governance professionals. It provided essential tools and insights to navigate the evolving healthcare landscape amid Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and National Health Insurance (NHI) reforms.

Led by Dr Pontsho Mokoena, the workshop explored:

  • The expanded role of trustees in ensuring member-centric medical schemes in a reformed healthcare environment
  • The impact of the Draft King V Code, a new benchmark in corporate governance
  • The importance of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and ensuring medical schemes genuinely prioritise members
  • Designing value-based contracts with administrators and managed-care partners
  • Real-world case studies—including lessons from medical scheme failures—and practical governance solutions
  • An interactive session equipping trustees to enhance board oversight, balance financial sustainability with member value, and adapt to regulatory change

Participants engaged in peer learning, scenario-based discussions, and action-oriented dialogue to strengthen their governance practices in anticipation of system-wide changes.
