In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have learnt that individuals with a compromised immune system are not only vulnerable to COVID-19. But, also may have a reduced immune response to COVID-19 vaccines.
What does it mean to be immunocompromised? It is when an individual’s immune system cannot distinguish between normal and foreign cells, therefore unable to protect the individual from infection.
As of 1st December 2021, immunocompromised adults will be eligible to receive an additional dose as part of their primary COVID-19 vaccine schedule, to enhance immune protection. The EVDs will allow additional doses provided that they are within the stipulated 28 day period lapse from the last dose administered to an individual.
